About Wyrd

Our Story

What is Wyrd?

The word Wyrd comes from the Anglo-Saxon concept of fate or personal destiny — the thread of life woven by forces beyond our control, yet uniquely our own. In Norse mythology, the Norns — Urðr (Wyrd), Verðandi, and Skuld — were three women who wove the fates of gods and men at the base of the world tree Yggdrasil.

We chose this name because we believe in the power of destiny, craft, and the stories we carry. Everything we make — every stitch, every bottle — is woven into something larger.

Our History

Wyrd Leatherworks & Meadery was founded in 2017 by best friends Tayler Toll and Travis Sigler, who started homebrewing mead and crafting leather goods together. In 2018 they opened their first location in Milwaukie, Oregon, under the name Wyrd Leather and Mead.

In the summer of 2020, at the height of a pandemic, they found a new home and built out a medieval-inspired tasting hall in Portland with help from friends and community. The brand was reborn as Wyrd Leatherworks and Meadery.

In 2022, Tayler stepped away as co-owner, leaving Travis to carry the legend forward. As the lease on the Portland Holgate tasting hall came to an end in 2026, Wyrd found a new and larger home — and so the era of Castle Wyrd began.
